More Tickets Released For Tampa, FL

Maybe Miley Cyrus fans will not have to pay scalpers for tickets after all.

On Friday, the St. Pete Times Forum announced it was putting additional tickets on sale for a previously sold-out concert by the teenage pop star, who portrays Hannah Montana on a popular Disney Channel TV show.

The tickets for the Nov. 19 concert will go on sale at noon Monday, and will only be available online via ticketmaster.com or by calling (727) 898-2100 or (813) 287-8844. No tickets will be sold at the Forum box office. There is a four-ticket purchase limit per person. Officially, the price range of the tickets is the same as when they went on sale in August: $28.75 to $68.75.

However, most of them are likely to cost $68.75, said Holly Brown, director of event marketing for the Forum.

Brown said she did not know how many tickets will be made available.

"A lot of times when shows go out on the road, they build their stage and productions to certain specs, and then when they physically set it up in an arena, they find that some seats they thought would have been obstructed were not really obstructed ... so they put those seats on sale," Brown said.

Given the demand for the show -- it sold out in about 18 minutes in August -- the tickets are certain to go fast.

The rapid sellout incensed some fans, especially those who had joined Cyrus' fan club to get first dibs and were still unable to purchase seats.

Some parents have shelled out thousands of dollars to scalpers. On Thursday, about 20 hopefuls entered an endurance contest in Tampa hosted by radio station WFLZ, 93.3 FM, to win tickets, backstage passes and $5,000.

Recent estimates point to a decrease in prices for Hannah Montana tickets available on the secondary market.

Hannah Montana's concert tour, featuring Miley Cyrus, quickly rose to become the hottest event of the year with kids and their parents scrambling to buy tickets. With seats selling fast, parents around the country voiced complaints that it was becoming far too difficult to purchase tickets, or that the few available tickets were selling at too high a price. While ticket resellers have been the scapegoat for soaring prices, the secondary market has actually kept prices down, making more seats available at an affordable price for fans eager to attend the tour.

Ironically, the tour's concert organizers themselves have withheld tickets from the general public, forcing the prices to skyrocket. In most cities, concert organizers held back a whopping 70 percent of the available tickets from sale to the public at each venue. At some arenas, the tour's concert organizers, not ticket brokers, auctioned off tickets for as much as $2,600 each.

As more tickets reach the secondary market, prices have dropped making more seats available to consumers. On one of the leading secondary ticket exchange, a wide range of tickets to the Hannah Montana tour are available for under $100, with tickets to the Minneapolis show starting at $70. These prices are bound to fall even further if concert organizers continue to release the 250,000 tickets that were never sold initially.

Hannah Montana: Let The Music Begin!

To get the best tickets at any high-profile concert or athletic event these days, prepare to spend cash, lot's of cash. Even if you're the first person in line. Take tickets for a New York Rangers regular-season game. They haven't won a Stanley Cup championship since 1994, but "VIP ringside" at center ice in Madison Square Garden will set you back $1,004.50, making them the most expensive regular-season, single-game seats in professional sports. Or how 'bout them Yankees? Major League Baseball's Bronx Bombers haven't been to the World Series since 2003 and they haven't won it since 2000. But that doesn't stop the team from selling the priciest seats in baseball - $400 a pop to sit near home plate or along the first and third-base lines at Yankee Stadium.

Now the Hannah Montana "Best of Both Worlds Tour" has arrived in St. Louis. Indeed, the tickets have been the hottest in town for weeks, since the announcement that Hannah's tour would start in St. Louis, triggering a madness somewhat like that stirred by the Beatles 40 years ago, but with a lower average age and higher-pitched screams. Parental frustration at the scalper frenzy was intense enough to trigger action from the Missouri attorney general. Attempts to get more tickets to actual parents brought requirements that worked for some parents and caused more frustration for others.

But in the end, fans were far from disappointed. The ages of concertgoers seemed to range from 4 or 5 to the ill-defined age when enthusiasm for artists like Hannah turns into the eye-rolling disdain of full-fledged teenagerhood. Pink tufts of fake or temporarily dyed hair were popular, as were headsets like the one Hannah wears as she sings. Girls tried to guess which of the seemingly endless string of limousines carried Hannah, but most of the limos disgorged astounding numbers of other Hannah fans in a clown-car manner. Inside Scottrade, after an opening set by the Jonas Brothers, fan dreams finally turned to reality as Hannah Montana was lowered from the ceiling onto the stage in an illuminated cube to the tune of her own "Rock Star." The accompanying screams from more than 15,000 fans was appropriately deafening.
